There are six things which the Lord hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers. –Proverbs 6:16-19.
God hates? Yes, He does. He hates sin which each of these fall under. I will admit that I’ve committed each one of them, theoretically. There is one that in a sense I haven’t committed, but in Jesus’ eyes, I guess I have: “hands that shed innocent blood,” which I take to mean murder. I have not taken the life of another in the sense of shedding blood. However, this isn’t the standard of measure that Christ uses.
“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder,’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.” –Matthew 5:21-22.
I am guilty as charged, on all counts. I deserve death. That’s justice. But God is merciful. Because of the cross of Christ, grace has been given to me because Jesus paid for my sins, those listed in Proverbs and many, many others.
Have you taken a look at that list recently and given thanks to our Savior for taking upon Himself our sins and those of the world?
May He Increase!
