I love books. My main problem is that I apparently lack the time to read the ones I have. Obviously, the main book I need to make time for is the Bible. All others are secondary.
My wife and I were at Sam’s Club today. Anytime I got to Sam’s Club or Costco I always look through the books section. I don’t always buy something, but I just love looking through them to see if I might find something that appeals to me.
Today I purchased the book “What in the World Is Going On?” by Dr. David Jeremiah. I already have started reading it and I think I’m going to finish this one quickly. Like Jeremiah and most Christians, I see many of the world events through the lens of Scripture. So much of what is happening just validates Biblical prophecy. I’m excited to read the book to get an updated take on things from a Biblical perspective.

The first chapter deals with Israel. I challenge those who would question God’s existence to try to justify their position when studying the history of the Jews. At it’s most basic element, why is such a tiny little nation–in terms of geography and population–the focus of the world’s attention? How is it that you can track the rise and fall of every major world power based on their relationship to Israel? Has the United States been the recipient of God’s promised blessings because since 1948, we have been the major world power supporting Israel? Is that blessing now waning as our support for Israel has changed in the last 20 years?
America is (was?) the greatest nation in history, both in idealogy, government, and promise. But what have we become? I do believe we have lost our moral compass. Surely, we have removed any trace of God from our schools. The minority voices are becoming louder and louder screaming for the removal of God from our government, our history, and our families. And families? What of those? The traditional American family is a far cry from what only a generation ago it used to look like. We are seeing the very definition of a family being redefined into whatever suits the individuals’ motives. Children and growing up without fathers, who have either left on their own volition, or as a result of mothers choosing to have children without a husband.
What in the world is going on? Unless you read and understand the Bible, that is a question you may ask and never get a suitable answer to. As I progress through Dr. Jeremiah’s book, I hope to share some thoughts on the subject.
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. –Revelation 1:3.
May He Increase!
