Feeling a Little Under the Weather

sickI’ve had a cold for almost a whole week. This afternoon, I’m starting to feel achy and feverish. I’m hoping this doesn’t turn into a flu or something else. We’ll see how I feel in the morning…maybe a visit to the doctor is in order.

Maybe it’s just the way I feel, but I heard a verse today in Micah that really hit home that I’d like to share. It’s a verse of hope tinged with victory over enemies. It’s not the latter part that I identify with right now–but I have in the past. Beyond that, I’m so exhausted from my “tent making trade” lately. I’m not complaining: it’s good that things are busy because it means I stay employed. However, it’s taking a lot out of me and I wonder if that’s what I’m physically not feeling well.

But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy. Though I fall I will rise; though I dwell in darkness, the Lord is a light for me. I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me out to the light, and I will see His righteousness. Then my enemy will see, and shame will cover her who said to me, “Where is the Lord your God?” My eyes will look on her; at that time she will be trampled down like mire of the streets. –Micah 7:7-10.

I really love this passage because the One who “pleads my case and executes justice for me” is Christ!

Stay well! This stuff isn’t fun!

May He Increase!

UPDATE 4/23: The doctor confirmed I have strep throat.

  1. hope you get well soon

  2. Jerald says:

I’m right there with you Joe. Have had this cold for who knows how long. But it’s given me some time to consider what you’ve quoted from Micah.
By the way, if you have a cough, just rub some Vicks on the bottom of your feet before bed and you’ll sleep like a baby. Be sure to put some socks on so the Vicks won’t get on the sheets. It might sound crazy but it does work. Go figure.

    • Joe says:

      Hi Jerald,

I’ve heard the same thing about Vick’s. I used to use it as a kid on my chest but we’ve been out of it for a while now. I should pick some up and try the foot thing.

      Thanks much for stopping by.

  3. Ike says:

Ask your doctor for a “Z” pack……….worked for me. You could also take a little wine…..it’s a little more romantic than taking vicks to bed with you!

    • Joe says:

      Ike,

“Take a little wine…” a la Paul to Timothy? :-) Too bad I didn’t get your comment until after I went to the doctor. But what is a “Z” pack?

  4. Ike says:

It’s an antibiotic “azthromycin”……….you start off taking two then one for four days. It works for ten days. Great stuff!

    • Joe says:

      Ike,

I see. He actually prescribed amoxicyllin for me, 3x for 10 days. For some reason, I actually feeling worse today and not better. Maybe as the day progresses the antibiotics will start kicking in.

  5. Jeff M says:

    Joe,
Are you feeling better yet? I had a bad run last summer that started with a case of strep. Praying for you brother.

    • Joe says:

      Jeff,

I’m actually feeling better this morning. Apparently, it’s taken the antibiotics three days to do any good for me. Throat is still a little sore–still hurts a little to swallow–but feels better today. Thank you for keeping me in prayer.
