God Laughs

I ran across something in Psalms that I had underlined a while back.

Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!” –Psalms 2:1-3.

This isn’t the part that I underlined but it sets the stage for the part I did. This is David speaking. At this time, David was God’s Anointed king. Ultimately, this verse is fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

This is what follows and the part I underlined:

He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them, then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, “But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain.” –Psalms 2:4-5.

Zion here speaks of Jerusalem where Messiah will eventually reign after His Second Coming and during the Millennium.

I haven’t done a complete word study on this, but I can’t recall off the top of my head how often the Bible says God laughs. But it is interesting to note that God is laughing here and laughing at the fools who would challenge Him.

Today is April Fool’s Day. I won’t make any snide remark about whose holiday this is, but I will close with this:

The fools has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; there is no one who does good. –Psalms 14:1.

If this describes you, make today the day you stop being a fool! Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart…you wouldn’t be here reading this if it were not so!

May He Increase!

There is humor in the Bible but this is not the laughter of humor.

“He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh….” Since this is not the laughter of humor, what is it? Well, look at it from God’s viewpoint-little man down there parading up and down, shaking his midget fist in Heaven’s face and saying, “Come on out and fight me! I’m against you.” God looks down at the puny little creature. It’s utterly “preposterous”. It is so ridiculous! He looks downs and laughs. “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.” It is so uttererly ridiculous, my friend. Little men putting themselves in opposition to God won’t be around very long. Mussolini did a lot of talking, and we haven’t heard from him lately. Stalin did the same thing, and he is gone. Little man plays his brief role here on the stage of life, then his part is over. How ridiculous and preposterous for him to oppose God!
