Last year, I did a post on “What Does Israel Really Mean?”
I posed the questions:
- Have you ever stopped to really think about Israel?
- Have you ever pondered the significance of the existence of the nation of Israel and the Jewish people?
- What does Israel really mean?
Since then, Israel has continually been in the news. Most recently, we have seen Hilary Clinton accusing the Israeli leaders of “insulting” the United States when it comes to them building more settlements. What I found insulting is that no one seems to realize that the land belongs to the Israeli people! It’s their land!
When I read stories like this, I can’t help but think of the words of Zechariah:
“Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.” –Zechariah 12:2-3.
The verse is still yet future, but oh how we can already see the stage being set!
Nations who would arrogantly come against the rights of the Israeli people should remember the list of historic nations that tried to do the same:
- The Egyptian Empire
- The Amalekites
- The Assyrian Empire
- The Hittite Empire
- The Chaldean Empire
- The Philistines
- The Babylonian Empire
- The Persian Empire
- The Greek Empire
- The Roman Empire
- The Byzantine Empire
- The Ottoman Turkish Empire
- The Soviet Empire
- The Nazi Empire
Where are these nations today? If they are still around, where is their power?
No matter if you are a believer or not, ask yourself: why is the little nation of Israel such a “heavy stone” for the world? Why are the Arab nations opposed to the very existence of Israel (not just the fact that they are in the land)? Why have the Israeli people been so persecuted throughout the ages?
I guarantee you, the more you ponder these questions the more you will be faced with the fact that you need to open the Bible to get to the real answers.
Israel is God’s time piece and, after many years of being on pause, started ticking again in 1948 when they became a nation. You can choose to just shrug this off, but one day very soon, it will become undeniable that God will once again deal with the world through Israel.
May He Increase!
