Today is that day in between the cataclysmic events of Good Friday and the glorious victory over death of Easter.
We’re looking back at the Passion Week series from 2009 this week.
Saturday, 15/16th of Nisan 32 A.D.
As we did last year, today is a good day to look back at the very picturesque Psalm 22 and how they depict the events of the cross.
The most memorable line from Psalm 22 is the first verse:
My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? –Psalm 22:1.
You immediately recognize this as one of the things Jesus said from the cross. Not only was this uttered because Jesus is in our place, taking upon Himself the sin of the world, but it’s also possible that Jesus quoted it so that those who heard it would know instantly what He was inferring.
Again, my thanks to my brother Jeff of Jeofurry’s Jesus Journey for the insight:
I would point out that one of the reasons I believe that Jesus uttered that first verse of this Psalm was to call attention to it regarding His death. Back in his day, there were no chapter and verse numbers. For that reason, passages were usually identified by the first words or verse. By saying this on the cross, Jesus was “citing chapter and verse” for His hearers to think on. All of those around the cross, especially the religious leaders would have immediately “gotten the point” I would think.
So what say you? Have you put off making that decision to make Jesus the Lord of your life? You don’t want to be the one quoting Psalm 22:1 at the end of your life!
May He Increase!
