About Joseph Chavez

I’ve known for a long time that the meaning of my name, Joseph, is “May God/Jehovah add,” or “May He add,” or “May He Increase.” The name is of Hebrew origin.

My parents named me on the day I was born, but I believe that it was God Himself who gave me my name. John the Baptist said in John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” I must decrease so that Christ may increase in my life and those I come in contact with. That is my name, my mission, my calling, and the purpose of my life.

I was raised Roman Catholic, but left the church in 1987 and became a prodigal son. After wandering and lost for 15 years, I realized how wretched I had become.

By the gentle whispering and grace of God, I was born-again as a Christian who believes the Bible to be the inspired Word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God-breathed. My family and I have made our church home at a local, non-denominational Christian church.

I am a graduate of California State University Dominguez Hills, earning my B.S. in Public Administration. For 20 years I’ve been working in the telecommunications industry in various roles.

My Interests

I am a husband to Rita, a father and stepfather. We live in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Orange County, California. My wife and I have been married for over eight years.

In my free time, I enjoy reading the Bible and commentaries. Although I don't have as much time I as I used to devote to it, I enjoy picking up my guitars and playing them.

I am also a raving Denver Broncos fan! Too soon to tell, but 2009 could be our year!
